Don’t Solve Problems- Pursue Opportunities.
What do you focus on in life? My leadership style is focused on coaching my team to focus more on the opportunities and how to maximize that versus focusing on the negatives and problems. For example, if you or your team represents a great product, you can never satisfy everyone and there will be challenges or features that are not available with your product. You can either a) choose to focus on what your product doesn’t have or b) you can focus on what you do have and sell on those.
If we only focus on problems, we might miss out on the success that the opportunities present are shown. In my own sales and sales management career, I have focused on the positive and looked for the opportunities that I could maximize. Even though for leaders and managers, we must solve problems for our team or for ourselves but if we only do that, we are missing an important key element that will bring us success and results for our work.
This quote from Peter Drucker is a great reminder for all of us to remember to look for the success that opportunities bring if we choose to focus on that rather than only the problems.
