Coming out of a long holiday weekend usually causes difficulty for us to wake up early and feeling energized from the extended day off. This is usually due to the fact that when we usually have a longer weekend than usual or if it is a holiday, we will either be at our family/friends place, out of town, have family/friends over and the activities usually keep us busy and catch up time lasts all throughout the night. This break in habit really shocks our body and we are overwhelmed with excitement and joy of having family/friends around, making it that much harder to really get motivated to get back to work.
and almighty water! First thing you should do in the morning, even
before your first cup of coffee is to drink a glass of water. This
will help refresh you and give you immediate energy because of the surge of
oxygen. Before going to bed, have a bottle of water on your nightstand
and drink that as you wake up. In doing so, this kick starts your day
and starts to hydrate your body from the hours of sleep. Drinking
water first thing in the morning is also known for helping with your
metabolism and will also aid in digestion by settling the acid in your
stomach.
- EAT A NICE BREAKFAST:
Start your day right with a nice healthy breakfast. The most important
meal of the day, as it will give you nutrients and energy to take on the
day.
- PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: I
did not say exercise, but if that is your thing, I highly recommend it.
Get up and stretch, walk your dog, get your blood pumping and release the
endorphins that will make you feel good and put you in that positive mind
and body balance.
- PREPARE:
To help you get going with less hassles the first day back to work after
a long weekend is to prepare for your day the evening before. Since we
usually break habits during these long weekends, we need to get back on
track and a little help by preparing ourselves. Go find your keys and
put them in your designated place, get your clothes and daily necessities
ready and review your day prior to help you feel more in control and less
flustered as you get back on track.
- SMILE: The mysterious
power of the smile. Start your day right by putting on a smile and it
all has to do with the mind set you choose to have. After a nice long
weekend with family/friends it is easy for us to wake up wishing we were
still enjoying the relaxing times versus going back to the grind.
Better yet, choose to be appreciative of the valuable time you got to spend
with loved ones and give an extension to your positive feelings.
Choose to be happy over being grumpy.
- CONTROL YOUR EMOTIONS:
As you come out of your relaxed pace it is easy for our emotions to take a
dive as we enter back into the workweek. Make an effort to control
your emotions by staying positive and think of the good time you had versus
what is ahead of you. If you enjoyed your weekend, acknowledge that
you have recharged your batteries and you should feel refreshed and ready to
tackle the day. You just had a GREAT long weekend! Be proud and
choose to be happy about that. It really helps if your work is
something you are passionate about because then it makes it that much easier
for you to get back into the swing of things.
- ROAD RAGE: Our first
test as we get on the road is the immediate rush and push of the road.
This is usually our rude awakening that we are back to work. Control
your emotions and don't let the others on the public roadways control your
mindset by controlling your road rage. Plan to leave a little earlier
than usual to go into work relaxed and in control, let others begin their
day stressed and in a rush as they quickly ruin their perfect weekend.
Drive with a smile and ponder on the great weekend you had, laugh at the
moments you had with your family and friends and realize the value of
feeling great versus being frustrated because of the craziness that traffic
and bad drivers bring. If you really look at it, road rage is not
worth it and it only affects you, be in control and choose the emotional
state you want to be in, but be mindful before you set out on the road to
prepare yourself versus reacting.
- SHARE: As you walk into your office
or as you pass other people smiling, smile back and say, "hi" or better yet
say, "looks like you had a nice weekend". Extend your fabulous weekend
by sharing your stories with others and help others continue their positive
state of mind by reliving the nice weekend. Stay away from talking
about how miserable it is to be back at work, but be the person to say, "I
am recharged and ready!".
