The need for knowledge and learning has been dulled by our years of closing out our daily experiences in life. We hold on to preconceptions about life and events that happen in our life versus opening up to learn and have the open mind to see each of life's events as unique. Our life is still full of mystery and we make life boring by our mental state of how we view our day to day lives. Staying curious, will help you grow and experience our everyday lives with growth and discovery.
For example, I love to travel because of all the new experiences I encounter by going to a new place, tasting new foods, seeing beautiful sites, experiencing different cultures and getting out of my day to day habits. I think we all enjoy traveling because in a sense it is like a fountain of youth. As a youth, our everday events invloved new experiences and curiosity that sparked us with even the simplest of events. If you can go back to view life with the curiosity of a child, you will see and experience life much differently. Become curious and don't jump to your preconceived opinions about things, question things as a child would and discover things all over again.
I am not saying to act like a child or become a child, and the best example of being curious as a child is by the great ancient philospher, Socrates. He was considered the wisest man in the world and he realized this was due to the fact that he realized that he knew nothing. Socrates kept his mind open to experience versus trying to think he knew it all. Like a child, Socrates would ask questions and even more questions to learn more.
Another perfect example is through our day to day interactions with people and they have strong opinions about matters that they really don't have any experience with. These people have decided long ago on their views and if challenged further to defend their position, you will realize how much they really don't know. Yes, maybe they might know the general superficial information or even some fancy argument points that they might have heard on talk radio or somehow someone has influenced them, if you ask questions deeper, most of the time you will realize that the person really doesn't know much about even their own opinions. Being curious will keep you from being blindly ignorant and to question issues to learn it deeper versus limiting yourself to basic information and forming views based on these limited sources of information.
Experience life again, renewed with curiosity and wonder and you will find the many exciting learning experiences in each day. Become the child you once were that took in information and sought after information deeper with questions and being brave enough to say, "I don't know" or by using the questioning word, "why".... and rediscover life... continuously.
